Will graduating reduce the cost of my insurance?
Since 2004 we have been working with the Massachusetts Division of Insurance to introduce a state-wide insurance discount for our training. The first stumbling block was finding a state agency to regulate our training. In the summer of 2006 the Registry of Motor Vehicles was authorized to promulgate regulations pertaining to Advanced Driver Training. After working with the RMV for almost a year, In Control was certified as Massachusetts' 1st Driver Skills Development Program in the summer of 2007.
In the years it took to put this certification in place, some significant changes in the Massachusetts insurance industry occurred. Prior to April 1, 2008 all rates for auto policies were set by the Division of Insurance, but that has now changed.
Going forward, each Massachusetts carrier will be setting their own rates and determining their own discounts. As a result, carriers representing nearly 40% of the market are now offering discounts between 5% and 10% for graduates of our program.

Many of these discounts are available to auto policy holders regardless of how much driving experience they have. In most cases, the discounts apply to the portions of your policy impacted by a crash (liability, collision, etc), but do not lower your costs for comprehensive insurance (covering theft, vandalism, etc).
We continue to work with more Massachusetts carriers and expect that carriers representing over 75% of the market will be offering discounts by end of summer.
We highly recommend you consult your auto insurance agent with questions about these discounts. The Massachusetts Division of Insurance has also set up a website that allows you to compare insurance premiums:
www.Mass.gov/AutoRates
Carriers offering discounts for our Advanced Driver Training graduates are denoted accordingly.
